Beyond the First Draft
Looking to refine your writing? Our mentorship program pairs writers with editors for personalized, in-depth reviews and consistent, face-to-face guidance. Unlike other programs, we focus on compatibility, hands-on learning, and long-term growth—building an online writing friendship that helps you develop your craft with real, meaningful feedback. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your craft or guide others in their creative journey, this is your chance to be part of something truly inspiring! Applications are now open—join us today!

This program will take place from May 5th to August 3rd of 2025. This 9-week program will involve virtual meetings with mentors in order to receive feedback and discuss live how to improve upon a piece. Writers will have a chance to have their pieces published by the magazine at the end of the program!
Take the time to review the guidelines before applying.
Editor/Mentor Applications are now closed! Thank you for all your interest. We are currently conducting interviews and will continue to be in communication regarding application results. If you missed the deadline and would like to express interest in the case that there is availability, email us at thealexandrianreview@gmail.com to let us know!

Summer Issue Theme: Pride
Our Pride Mini-Issue will feature pieces inspired by the LGBTQIA+ experience and culture. This is a theme that writers can tailor to their personal perspective, interpretation, and real-life accounts, whether that be in a fictional, poetic, or more literal sense. It is our intent to celebrate this community and amplify stories from individuals regarding their experiences, or create a passionate message about the LGBTQIA+ community. This theme is especially important in the context of current-day issues and policies, and we hope this issue can create a sense of hope and joy!
Submissions & Guidelines
The Alexandrian Review receives any submissions within our guidelines. While we do emphasize our theme of amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, we are happy to accept and provide feedback on any works. Our guidelines are as follows:
-
Applicants must be 10-20 years old.
-
Applicants cannot write their full name or any identifying information on the document containing their piece– this allows for a blind-review reading process that ensures no bias is involved.
-
Submissions must be in English or Spanish. If your works contain a small number of words in another language, this is acceptable, but please provide translations.
-
Pieces must be submitted in Google Document format. This enables our editorial team to easily provide feedback on your work.
-
All submissions must be in Times New Roman, 12pt font size.
-
All submissions must be double-spaced.
-
Poetry does not need to be double-spaced– the writer may format poetry as they wish.
-
-
Poetry submissions cannot exceed 80 lines.
-
Fiction or nonfiction submissions cannot exceed 2,000 words.
-
We do not accept submissions that are academic essays or op-ed papers. A nonfiction essay written based on personal accounts or in a creative manner is allowed.
-
Responses are limited to one piece per person. This is to enable us to provide the most attention to the piece you chose to submit, and give each individual equal feedback and detail.
-
Your piece cannot have been published to another literary magazine or elsewhere. We accept simultaneous submissions, but if the piece has been accepted elsewhere, please notify us immediately to determine if your piece must be withdrawn.
If your work meets our guidelines, you are ready to submit! To do so, fill out the google form below and attach your work– feel free to contact us if any questions arise. Please note that we will be leaving feedback on your work. You will be notified at a later date, likely in late June, on whether or not your work has been accepted to be featured in our upcoming issue. Whether or not your piece will be published, our editorial team will provide feedback and edit whatever piece you elect to submit! Keep an eye out in your inbox for messages from our email; we may be requesting that you amend formatting issues or other problems before we proceed with the editing process. We look forward to your submission!

NOTICE: If you are currently a member of staff or planning on applying, please do not submit a piece. In the interest of fairness, we do not publish our own editors or staff, as we want to give those opportunities to others. If you have any questions, please reach out to us. Thank you for your understanding.
